The Dordt University women's soccer team lost to William Penn (Iowa) 5-1 in a non-conference match played this afternoon on Drost Field in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
The Defenders are now 0-2-1; William Penn pushes its record to 3-1.
William Penn led 1-0 after the opening period with an early goal by Heidi Gill in the first minute of the match. The Defenders outshot the Statesmen 9-6 in the first half.
An early second half goal (49:57) by Ameris Osorio pushed the hosts lead to 2-0, which it stayed until the 73rd minute when Sian Bah drove a shot by Defenders goalkeeper
Abi Green Martinez. Five minutes later, Bah netted her second goal and gave William Penn a 4-0 lead.
Faith Mondeel came through for the Defenders during the 85th minute with the first goal of her career. William Penn responded less than two minutes later with the final goal of the match as Rakiya Morgan-King scored off an assist by Alli Baumbach.
By the Numbers:
- Dordt held the advantage in both total shots (25-15) and shots on-goal (12-10)
- Joslyn Vander Molen led the Defenders with three shots on-goal; both Mondeel and Abi Keltner delivered two shots on net
- Green-Martinez, making her second career start, made five saves
- Emma Billings earned the win in goal and made 11 saves for William Penn
- Bah netted two goals, Morgan-King totaled a goal and an assist and Baumbach accounted for two assists
