Joslyn Vander Molen scored two goals and assisted on another in leading the Dordt University women's soccer team to a 3-1 win against Viterbo (Wis.) in a non-conference match played this afternoon at the Defenders Soccer Complex.
The Defenders earned their first win of the season and improve to 1-2-1 this season; Viterbo is now 2-3.
Scoreless until the 20th minute, Vander Molen put the Defenders in front with her first goal when she received a pass from
Maria Zylstra and touched a shot just out of reach of the Viterbo goalkeeper.
The V-Hawks responded a minute later on a goal by Evelyn Shaw with an assist from Casey Hill to tie the match 1-1.
Still tied 1-1, Vander Molen put the Defenders up for good with a converted penalty kick, the first of her career, during the 30th minute.
The teams went scoreless for much of the second half until the Defenders picked up an important insurance goal when Vander Molen crossed a ball into the box that
Jenna Roberts one-timed a shot into the back of the net during the 81st minute.
By the Numbers:
