The Dordt University men's golf team opened play at the Siouxland Invite on Monday, September 14, at The Ridge Golf Club in Sioux Center. The opening day was scheduled for 36 holes, but persistent rain throughout the day shortened the event to one 18-hole round.
Round 1 Results
Dordt's A team carded a 305 and is tied for fifth place in the team standings. The Defenders are seven strokes behind fourth-place Morningside and tied with Doane's B team.
Samuel Wolfe led Dordt with a 73, finishing two strokes over par and tied for sixth individually. Wolfe put together a consistent round, shooting 36 on the front nine and 37 on the back nine. He was two over par in holes one through nine and remained in contention for a top-10 finish with a steady back nine.
Trey Van Groningen followed with a 76 and is tied for 22nd. Van Groningen also had a strong opening nine, shooting 37 with a 39 on the back nine. His 76 was five over par.
Ian Grossmann finished tied for 25th with a 77. Grossmann opened with a 36, five strokes better than his 41 on the back nine. His opening nine included a pair of birdies and several pars as he turned in an even-par 36.
Caleb Douma carded a 79 and is tied for 44th. Douma shot 40 on the front nine before improving to a 39 on the back nine.
Leyton Roetman rounded out Dordt's A-team scoring with an 81 and is tied for 55th.
Roetman shot 37 on the opening nine before a 44 on the back nine.
The five A-team scores combined for a 305, putting Dordt in a tie for fifth after the opening round.
Dordt's B team is ninth with a 310.
Aaron Greene and
Joseph Wolfe each posted strong rounds, with Greene shooting 73 and
Joseph Wolfe carding a 74. Greene is tied for sixth overall, while Wolfe is tied for 12th.
Evan Wood shot 81,
David Chacon finished with an 82 and
Joshua Toner carded an 86.
Dordt's C team finished the opening round with a 349 and is 17th in the team standings. Caden Van Groningen led the group with an 83, followed by
Jackson Lundbohm with an 86 and
Caelen Wigboldy with an 88. Reece DeBoom shot 92 and
Deacon Branderhorst finished with a 94.
Isaiah Breems competed as an individual for Dordt and shot an 80, finishing tied for 50th.
Hastings leads the team standings with a 292, followed by Northwestern at 295, Doane at 297 and Morningside at 298. Dordt's A team is seven strokes behind Morningside after the rain-shortened opening day.
The Ridge played as a par-71 course at 6,828 yards for the event.
Dordt will play in day two at Landsmeer on Tuesday, September 15 with 36-holes scheduled.
