The Dordt University men's golf team delivered a strong final-round showing at Tatanka Golf Club on Tuesday, firing a tournament-best 1-over-par 289 to capture the Mount Marty Classic championship. The Defenders posted a two-day total of 580 (+4, 291-289) to secure a commanding 20-stroke victory over runner-up Midland University (600). Dordt set the standard from start to finish, sweeping the top four positions on the individual leaderboard while putting six golfers inside the top 15 of the 46-player field.
Leading the charge in Round 2 was
Caleb Douma, who recorded the lowest round of the day for the Defenders with an even-par 71 (36-35). Douma ignited his round with back-to-back front-nine birdies on the 6th and 7th holes before adding red numbers on the 12th and 15th on the inward nine to vault into a tie for third at 146 (+2).
Samuel Wolfe earned individual medalist honors at even-par 144 (71-73), closing with a back-nine 35 that featured consecutive birdies on Nos. 14 and 15.
Joseph Wolfe claimed runner-up honors at even-par 144, carding his second straight 72 (35-37) with birdies on the 1st and 17th holes. Â
Samuel Wolfe earned medalist honors with a second playoff hole birdie.
Trey Van Groningen joined Douma in a tie for third at 146 (+2) after posting a steady 73 (37-36), highlighted by a back-to-back birdie streak on holes 5 and 6 and another birdie on the par-3 12th.
Ian Grossmann trimmed three strokes off his opening round with a 76 (37-39) to place 15th at 155, while individual competitors
Evan Wood (T10, 151) and
Isaiah Breems (28th, 165) rounded out Dordt's strong representation.
Dordt will next golf on Monday and Tuesday, September 28 and 29 at TPC Deer Run in Silvas, Illinois.
