The Dordt University men's soccer team scored five goals in the second half to pull away and defeat Waldorf 6-1 in a GPAC match played tonight at Bolstorff Field in Forest City, Iowa.
The Defenders earned their first GPAC win and improve to 1-1 in the conference, 5-3-1 overall. Waldorf, a team that earned votes in the latest NAIA Coaches' poll, dropped its third straight and is now 0-2 in the GPAC, 5-5 overall.
Ike D'Silva and
Boston Gerdes scored two goals each and both
Tate Hansen and
Joao Locatelli found the back of the net once in the the Defenders win.
Jayden Donald and
Henry Haufler picked up a pair of assists.
Scoreless until the 38th minute, the host Warriors netted the first goal when Jedidiah Omoghan chipped a shot over Defenders goalkeeper
Alvaro Boned for a 1-0 lead. Dordt tied it just before the half when D'Silva received a through pass from
Vincent Croney and put a shot past the Warriors goalkeeper.
Dordt completely controlled play in the second half as they found the back of the net five times over the final 45 minutes. The Defenders netted the game-winner on a counter-attack after a Waldorf cornerkick when Boned punted the ball away, was received by Haufler who then found D'Silva who scored his second goal during the 50th minute.
Dordt took a 3-0 lead on a goal by
Joao Locatelli, who drove a shot in the net from the edge of the penalty area after a mis-played clear by Waldorf.
Tate Hansen put the Defenders in front 4-0 with a goal during the 71st minute off an assist from Donald.
Gerdes scored the final two goals for the Defenders, the first on a great cross from Donald during the 81st minute and the final off another assist by Haufler.
By the Numbers:
- Dordt outshot Waldorf 24-10, 15-5 on-goal
- 11 different players recorded a shot on-goal for the Defenders, led by Gerdes with three and both D'Silva and Donald with two
- seven different Dordt players recorded at least one point
- Alvaro Boned (5-3-1) made four saves and was the only Defender to play the full 90 minutes
