The Dordt Defender women's volleyball team lost a 3-2 road decision to the Morningside Mustangs on Tuesday night, November 1 to conclude the regular season.
Dordt controlled set one, starting with a 4-0 run that pushed Dordt in front 6-2 with the final point in the run coming on a block by
Alli Timmermans and
Ellie Voss. Another four point run later put them up 13-5 as a block punctuated the run again, this one coming from
Brenna Krommendyk and
Isabella Cumana. Leading 21-13 the Defenders looked poised to run away but the Mustangs cut the difference down to 23-20 before Dordt scored on a kill by
Grace Langemeier and
Ellie Voss to win 25-20.
Morningside took advantage of the momentum and took a fast 11-2 lead in set two and Dordt never got close in falling 25-11. Set three was a reversal of fortune with the score tied 10-10 before a 9-0 run made it 19-10. This time Dordt didn't allow Morningside a confidence building close and won 25-12.
Morningside rallied to grabbed a 13-7 lead in set four but Dordt was able to tie the set at 15-15 on a block by
Alli Timmermans and
Ellie Voss and
Ellie Voss added a kill for a 16-15 lead. Morningside had an answer with Claire Wilson knocking through one of her match high 21 kills and the set was never tied again.Â
Grace Langemeier had a kill to get within 22-21 but an attack error put the hosts up 23-21 and the went on to win 25-21.
In the decisive fifth set the Defenders tied it at 3-3 on a service error but a 4-0 run left Dordt playing catch up and Dordt never did, getting withing two on two different occasions before falling 15-11.

Dordt will play Jamestown at 7:00 pm on Saturday, November 5 in the GPAC Quarterfinals and will take a 13-11 overall record and 7-9 league record into the eight team field.
