Volleyball Drops Match With Rated Foe

Rally Falls Just Short

Corban def. Dordt  3-1 (25-22, 25-27, 25-15, 25-23)

The Dordt Defenders suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Corban Warriors on Saturday afternoon, August 27 in a match hosted by Hope International in Fullerton, California.

The Defenders were down 12-10 in set one before the Warriors scored six of the next seven points to take a 17-11 lead. The lead proved to be too much to overcome as the Defenders fell 25-22 after getting as close as 24-22 on back to back blocks by Brenna Krommendyk and Grace Langemeier. 

Set two featured a comeback from being down 24-20 as Dordt salvaged the set to win 27-25, recording the final two points with an attack error and a Corrina Timmermans kill.

Corban responded with a run midway through set three to win 25-15. 

Set four was a battle with Dordt tying the set at 13-13 on a Corrina Timmermans block.  The score was tied again at every point break until 21-21.  Three straight Corban points put them up 24-21 but Corrina Timmermans and Ellie Voss teamed up for a block to fight off one set point and then Timmermans added a kill to get with 24-23. The comeback effort was stopped by a Kylie Davey kill for a 25-23 final.


THE NUMBERS


Corban had a 63-46 kills advantage and an 11-2 ace serves edge.

Dordt scored 11 points on blocks and Corban had nine.

Corrina Timmermans had 10 kills and nine digs and Avey Amelse had nine kills.

Ellie Voss recorded eight kills and Grace Langemeier had seven kills.

Makenna Kooima got to 30 digs and also got credit for 12 assists.
