Defenders Sweep Saint Francis In Saturday Morning Match

Corrina Timmermans Paces Defenders With 10 Kills

Box Score The Dordt Defender volleyball team was a 3-0 winner over Saint Francis (Indiana) on Saturday morning, September 3 in a match played in North Sioux City, South Dakota.

Dordt handled the match in the minimum by set scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-18 to win its third match of the weekend.

The Defenders set the tone early by getting out to a 14-5 lead in set one and pushed the lead to double digits on a block by Avey Amelse and Ellie Voss for a 17-7 cushion. The Cougars got no closer than seven the rest of the set and Dordt closed on a 3-0 run, finishing the set on a Brenna Krommendyk kill.

Saint Francis mustered a 6-4 lead in set two but a five point run by Dordt on a combination of a Krommendyk kill, a Makenna Kooima ace serve, a Grace Langemeier kill, an Avey Amelse kill and a Langemeier and Ellie Voss block put Dordt up 9-6. Another four point run later put Dordt up 14-9 and the Cougars were playing catch up the rest of the set on the way to a 25-14 loss.

Saint Francis managed to keep set three close up to 15-13 until a Voss kill and back to back Corrina Timmermans kills forged an 18-13 lead and the Defenders held on to win 25-18.

THE NUMBERS

Corrina Timmermans had 10 kills to lead the Dordt offense at the net.

Ellie Voss added seven kills and four block assists and Brenna Krommendyk had six kills and four block assists.

Avey Amelse accounted for six kills and Grace Langemeier had five.

Sophie Johnson and Megan Raszler had 14 and 12 assists and Johnson and Kooima had two service aces each.

Dordt had a 37-15 kills advantage and the Defenders took advantage of nine points off of blocks and total of 26 Saint Francis hitting errors.
