The Dordt University women's track and field team qualified for nationals in three events at today's Jim Emmerich Alumni Invite hosted by South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D.
Jessica Kampman broke her own school record, set earlier this season, and met the NAIA 'A' standard once again in the 3000m. Kampman crossed the finish line in fourth place with a time of 9:54, second fastest in the NAIA and No.1 time in the GPAC.Â
The Defenders 4x400 relay met the NAIA 'A' standard in one of final races of the day, crossing the finish line in fourth place with a time of 3:56.47. Their time is the second fastest in the GPAC, 8th best in the NAIA and ranks seventh in program history. Relay members include
Anmarie Stuit,
Ayda Den Herder,
Mika Kooistra and
Emilee Heynen.
Heynen was the third and final Defender to qualify for nationals, meeting the provisional standard in the 800m with a time of 2:17.75. Heynen ranks second in the GPAC and seventh in the NAIA.
Seven Dordt entries finish among the the top 10 in their respective event at today's meet that featured teams from NCAA D-I and D-II. In addition, six Defenders turned in a performance this weekend that ranks among the GPAC's top 10 while 27 Dordt entries recorded personal bests.Â
