Dordt defeats Briar Cliff 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 25-16, 15-25, 15-11)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender volleyball team secured a 3-2 win over the Briar Cliff Chargers on Wednesday night in GPAC play at the De Witt Gym in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The Defenders used a career high 15 kills from
Ellie Weg to secure the win and also had 12 ace serves to earn the win.
Dordt had a 22-18 lead in set one but the Chargers had a rally to tie the set at 22-22, forcing a Dordt timeout.
Ellie Weg had had a kill followed by a
Kelly McArthur kill for a 24-22 lead. After a Briar Cliff point Weg recorded a kill to end the set 25-23.
The Defenders trailed set two 20-17 but came back to lead 23-21. After a timeout the Chargers went on a 4-0 run to close the set, getting the final two points on Makynna Snow kills to even the match. The Defenders ran away with set three, building an early 10-point advantage before settling for the 25-16 win.
Dordt trailed in set four 10-9 and was still within 15-13 when the Chargers expanded the lead and scored the final seven points for a 25-15 win setting up the decisive fifth set. Dordt never trailed in the set but did allow Briar Cliff to tie the set at 10-10. A Weg kill broke the tie and
Macy Kamler had a kill later to get Dordt to match point. After a Briar Cliff point from a block, the Defenders got a kill by Weg to finish the match.

- Dordt had a 63-56 kills advantage and a 12-5 ace serves edge.
- Briar Cliff had a 15-10 points from blocks advantage.
- Ellie Weg had 15 kills with one solo block and four block assists.
- Riley Doenhoefer had 12 kills and five digs with three block assists.
- Bryleigh Schweer had nine kills and five block assists and five ace serves.
- Macey Kamler had eight kills and four ace serves with 16 digs.
- Isabella Cumana had eight digs.
- Sophie Johnson had 28 assists and 11 digs.

- Makenna Kooima had a team high 31 digs and Madison Vis had 15.
