Morningside defeats Dordt 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 26-24)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Morningside Mustangs used early leads in all three sets to defeat the Dordt Defenders in the regular season finale for both teams. Morningside controlled much of the first two sets and then overcame a Dordt rally in set three to win 26-24.
The Mustangs scored three of their first five points on ace serves in set one while building a 5-1 lead but Dordt rallied to within 9-7 after a setting error and the difference was 10-8 after the two teams traded points. An attack error got Dordt to within 10-9 but an eventual 6-0 run made the score 17-11 and the hosts won set one 25-18.
Morningside led set two 8-1 but Dordt fought back to within 16-14 on a
Tarren Spartz kill but the Mustangs again answered and pulled away to win 25-16. Set three saw the Defenders within 11-9 after
Bryleigh Schweer recorded one of her team-high nine kills but the Mustangs pushed in front 20-12. Dordt had an answer with five straight points, capping the run with an
Isabella Cumana kill to get within 20-17. Morningside seemed to weather the rally and led 24-21 but a Spartz kill followed by a pair of Morningside attack errors tied the set 24-24. The hosts then finished the match with back-to-back kills to win 26-24.
