The Dordt Defender baseball team moved its record to 7-2 with a split at Benedictine on Saturday afternoon in non-conference play. The Defenders lost the opener 5-3 and bounced back with a 5-2 win in game two. Dordt's off now until its trip to Florida with games beginning March 7.
GAME 1
Dordt got on the board with a Dylan Stanley fielder's choice to score a run and Kaden Davis singled in Logan Harris for a 2-0 lead. Benedictine answered with a run in in the fourth but Dordt responded with a run in the top of the fifth for a 3-1 lead on a Logan DeVries sacrifice fly to get Dylan Stanley in.
The Ravens tied the game with a two run homerun in the fifth and took the lead later in the inning on an error. The hosts then got a run for insurance in the sixth to end the scoring with a 5-3 win. Dordt got the tying run to the plate in the seventh but a game ending double play stopped the threat.
GAME 1 NUMBERS
Dylan Stanley was 3-4 at the plate with three singles.
Logan Harris and Logan De Vries each had a double for Dordt's only extra base hits of the game.
Nick Yeager pitched four and a third innings with nine strikeouts and walked two with seven hits allowed.
GAME 2
The Defenders bounced back with a 5-2 win in game two Saturday afternoon and used a pair of homeruns to help themselves to the victory.
Logan De Vries homered with Anthony Rodriguez on in the fourth inning but Benedictine had an answer with two runs in the fourth. Dylan Stanley broke the tie with a solo homer in the sixth to get up 3-2 and Kaden Davis later scored on a wild pitch. Bennett Spronk ended the scoring with a fielder's choice that got De Vries in from third.
GAME 2 NUMBERS
Logan De Vries was 2-4 with a homerun and double, two runs scored and two runs batted in.
Dylan Stanley was 1-3 with a homerun.
Gyeongju Kim pitched six and two-third innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits, three walks and nine strikeouts.
