(Wednesday, March 1; Sioux Center, Iowa) Willow Bleeker, a senior at Sioux Center High School (Iowa), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program.
"Willow is a fantastic addition to our women's basketball program. She embodies the Defender Way and has a healthy perspective on life and competition. Willow has had a great senior season as her game continues to expand. We look forward to serving Willow as she grows in all facets of her life during her time at Dordt," said Dordt women's basketball coach Bill Harmsen.
Bleeker is a 5-8 guard who is averaging 12.2 points per game for the Warriors and has made 47 percent of her three-point attempts. She has a 3.3 assists per game average to go with 4.7 rebounds and 2.6 steals per contest. Bleeker has been a three-year starter and earned first-team all-conference honors as a sophomore and junior.
"I chose Dordt University because when I stepped on Dordt's campus it felt like home. I love the sense of community on campus and in the women's basketball program. I felt confident Dordt would be the place where I could continue to grow spiritually, academically and athletically," said Bleeker.
Willow is the daughter of Bryan and Becca Bleeker of Sioux Center, Iowa. She's undecided on a field of study.
Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).?
U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
