GAME ONE
The Dordt Defender softball team was in control from the second inning on today in game one of their doubleheader with Dakota Wesleyan and the Defenders won a 10-3 decision.
Wesleyan scored two in the first inning before an
Ivy Terpstra in the bottom of the frame scored
Chandler Schemper and
Emma Groen followed with a homerun to give Dordt a lead they never relinquished.
Lauren Steenstra scored on a ground out in the second and she singled in the third with the bases loaded allowing three runs to score. A
Karli Olsen homerun in the fourth coupled with a Groen single that scored
Ella Koster stretched the lead to 9-2 and Schemper ended the Dordt scoring in the fifth to get
Jessica Flaherty in.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt had a 12-5 hits advantage with Groen going 3-4 with three runs batted in.
- Chandler Schemper was 2-4 with two runs batted in and Ella Koster and Brynn Torrenga each had two hits.
- Schemper and Koster each had doubles and Olsen and Groen homered.
- Abby Kraemer earned the win with three runs allowed on five hits and she struck out 12.
GAME TWO
The Dordt Defenders needed a two run seventh inning to secure an 8-7 win over Dakota Wesleyan in Sioux Center on Saturday, March 25.
Dordt twice rallied from three run deficits and didn't lead until a single ended it with two outs in the seventh frame.
Wesleyen scored three in the first before Dordt got two in the home half of the inning on an
Ella Koster double that scored
Karli Olsen.
Ivy Terpstra later singled in Koster to make it 3-2.
Wesleyan had an answer with two more in the second for a 5-2 lead Dordt pulled even in the fourth with Bryn Torrenga grounded out to get
Emma Groen in from third and
Chandler Schemper's double scored
Brooklynn Cox and
Aurora Tyson.
Wesleyan took the lead back at 6-5 in the fifth and Dordt rallied for the equalizer on a Cox triple that scored Luaren Steenstra. Dordt left Cox stranded and Wesleyan unlocked the tie with a run in the seventh.Â
The Tigers recorded the first two outs of the last frame without incident but a pop fly fell for a hit in rifht field and
Ivy Terpstra didn't hesitate in legging out the double.
Emma Groen followed with a grounder to the hole between short and third that she legged out for an infield single.Â
Jessica Flaherty, running for Terpstra, Â didn't hesitate in racing home from second to tie the game. Groen stole second to get in scoring position and scored on a single to left field by
Aurora Tyson to end the game.

THE NUMBERS
- Alexa Kopaska pitched four innings in relief and allowed one run on one hit with two walks and a strikeout.
- Abby Kraemer got the win with a one run seventh inning and struck out one for her 10th victory of the season.
- Ella Koster, Ivy Terpstra and Emma Groen all had two hits and Aurora Tyson, Lauren Steenstra, Brooklynn Cox and Chandler Schemper all had a hit.
- Schemper got credit for a pair of runs batted in.
- Dordt is now 21-6 overall and 2-0 in the GPAC.
- Dordt was scheduled to face Northwestern on Tuesday, March 28 but that doubleheader has been moved to April 18.Â
- Dordt will host Mount Marty on April 4 in their next action.
