Split For Defender Baseball Saturday

GAME ONE

The Dordt Defender baseball team won a dramatic come-from-behind decision to geta split of games on Saturday afternoon, March 25 in Fremont, Nebraska.

Dordt trailed 2-0 going into the top of the seventh inning. Juan Sanchez had a solo homerun with one out to get Dordt within 2-1 and an error on a potential game ending double play scored Bennet Spronk.

Midland went scoreless in the bottom of the seventh and Dordt scored two in the top of the eighth on a Dylan Stanley homerun. Midland threatened in the bottom of the extra frame and had the runners at second and third before a line out to the pitcher ended the threat and game.

THE NUMBERS

GAME TWO

Midland got out to a 6-0 lead after four innings and Dordt got as close as 6-3 with three in the fifth before falling 8-3 in game two of the set.

The Defenders got two on a Nolan Christianson single that scored Trevor Jackson and Jason Carrig.  Dordt's other run came when Dylan Stanley grounded out to the right side of the infield and Caleb Beard scored.

THE NUMBERS

  • Jason Carrig was 3-3 with two singles and a double.
  • Nolan Christianson, Dylan Stanley, Logan De Vries and Trevor Jackson all had a hit each with Jackson getting a double and the other three had singles.
  • Nick Yeager took the loss with three and a third innings pitched and he struck out four and was charged with six runs total and three earned runs.
  • Diego Benitez went two and two-thirds in relief and allowed two runs—one of them earned and gave up five hits with a strikeout.
  • Dordt is now 13-11 overall and 1-5 in league play. The Defenders are scheduled to face Briar Cliff on March 31 and Dakota Wesleyan on April 1.
