GAME ONE
The Dordt Defender baseball team won a dramatic come-from-behind decision to geta split of games on Saturday afternoon, March 25 in Fremont, Nebraska.
Dordt trailed 2-0 going into the top of the seventh inning.
Juan Sanchez had a solo homerun with one out to get Dordt within 2-1 and an error on a potential game ending double play scored Bennet Spronk.
Midland went scoreless in the bottom of the seventh and Dordt scored two in the top of the eighth on a
Dylan Stanley homerun. Midland threatened in the bottom of the extra frame and had the runners at second and third before a line out to the pitcher ended the threat and game.
THE NUMBERS
GAME TWO
Midland got out to a 6-0 lead after four innings and Dordt got as close as 6-3 with three in the fifth before falling 8-3 in game two of the set.
The Defenders got two on a
Nolan Christianson single that scored
Trevor Jackson and
Jason Carrig. Â Dordt's other run came when
Dylan Stanley grounded out to the right side of the infield and
Caleb Beard scored.
THE NUMBERS
- Jason Carrig was 3-3 with two singles and a double.
- Nolan Christianson, Dylan Stanley, Logan De Vries and Trevor Jackson all had a hit each with Jackson getting a double and the other three had singles.
- Nick Yeager took the loss with three and a third innings pitched and he struck out four and was charged with six runs total and three earned runs.
- Diego Benitez went two and two-thirds in relief and allowed two runs—one of them earned and gave up five hits with a strikeout.
- Dordt is now 13-11 overall and 1-5 in league play. The Defenders are scheduled to face Briar Cliff on March 31 and Dakota Wesleyan on April 1.
