(Monday, January 15; Sioux Center, Iowa) Abigil Hitchcock, a senior at Des Moines Christian High School (Iowa), has announced her intention to attend Dordt University and join the Defender softball program.
Hitchcock played catcher, second base and the outfield during her career and had a .322 batting average this past fall. She knocked in 22 runs during her summer 2023 season with a .293 batting average. She was named the Des Moines Christian defensive player of the year in 2023.
"I am choosing to attend Dordt because it felt like it was the perfect school and choice for me since my first campus visit. I want to grow in my faith. Transferring my junior year of high school to Des Moines Christian has changed me and helped me grow in my faith journey. I believe continuing a faith-based education by attending a Christian university will help me grow closer to God. Dordt University felt like home right away from the start," said Hitchcock.
Abigail is the daughter of Daniel and Tracy Hitchcock of Johnston, Iowa. She plans to study education.
Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).
U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
