Womens' Basketball Breaks Century Mark For 18th Season Win

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dordt Defender women's basketball team scored at least 22 points in all four quarters Saturday afternoon in beating Doane in Great Plains Athletic Conference action 102-58.

The game was tied 6-6 when Hayden Heimensen ignited a 12-0 run with a three-point basket and the lead went up to 18-6 in the span of two minutes.  A Macey Nielson three-point basket helped start another run as the Defenders closed the period up 27-10.  Much of the second quarter was played at a 20-plus point difference with Dordt taking a 49-24 halftime lead.



A pair of Karly Gustafson free throws made it 65-26 with 7:10 left in the third quarter as Dordt outscored the visitors 24-13 in the period and the fourth saw the Defenders run off 29 points for the 102-58 victory for their 13th win to start the GPAC season.

THE NUMBERS
  • Dordt made 36-59 field goals for 61 percent success and the Defenders were 11-21 from the arc for 52 percent success.
  • Doane was limited to 23-54 shooting and 1-10 from the three-point line.  Doane also struggled from the free throw line with a 11-21 night.
  • Dordt had a 39-23 rebounding edge and forced 11 steals and recorded 27 assists.
  • 15 Defenders scored.
  • Dordt is now 18-1 overall and 13-0 in the GPAC.
