Top-ranked Dordt University earned its second consecutive win against a ranked opponent as the Defenders defeated 17th-ranked Grand View 100-70 in the first game of the Pizza Ranch Classic, hosted by Northwestern College, in Orange City, Iowa.
Dordt, who opened the season with an 18-point win against #20 Oregon Tech last weekend, improved to 2-0; Grand View slips to 1-2 this season.
Four Defenders scored in double figures, highlighted by a career-high 28 point effort by
Janie Van Donge. Van Donge missed just three shots from the field, going 11-for-14 from the floor, and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.
Macy Sievers filled up the stat sheet with 21 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and five steals while both
Olivia Harazin (18pts) and
Ellie Lems (15pts) recorded career-highs in scoring.
How It Happened:
- the Defenders raced out to a 6-0 lead, getting back-to-back buckets by Lems, to force Grand View into an early timeout
- a lay-up by Sievers gave Dordt its largest lead of the first quarter (12-4) at the 5:34 mark
- a 10-2 Grand View run, triggered by consecutive three-pointers made by Taryn Lindsey and Anna Gosling, tied the game at 14
- Dordt scored the final five points of the quarter and led 23-18 after one period
- Grand View scored the first seven points of the second quarter and held its first lead, 25-23, at the 8-minute mark
- still down by two (34-32), Dordt went on a decisive 16-0 run, book-ended with baskets by Van Donge, to take a 48-34 lead
- Dordt led 50-39 at halftime
- the Defenders pushed its lead to 15 (70-55) in a third quarter where the teams combined for 26 free throws and both struggled shooting from the field
- a Harazin lay-up gave the Defenders their first 20-point lead (77-57)
- moments later, another Harazin basket cappped an 11-2 Dordt run to go up 81-57 at the 7:31 mark
- a basket by McKenzie Goodwin finished off an 11-0 Defenders run and gave the hosts their largest lead (96-62)

- Dordt shot 54% for the game, 71% (12/17) in the fourth quarter
