atedThe Dordt Defenders dropped two games to the University of Jamestown Jimmies in Open Space Park this afternoon.
GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt struggled offensively as they were only able to knock in one run on four hits. Jamestown scored two runs in the second inning after Bonneville reached first on an error that allowed Brown and Nelson to score. The Jimmies scored three more runs an inning later to take a 5-0 lead early. Jason Carrig drew a leadoff walk and took second on a wild pitch and Drew Oreskes worked a walk. Dylan Stanley stepped in with two runners on a delivered a one-out RBI single to score Carrig but Oreskes was thrown out after an aggressive turn at second that left him too far off the bag. Jamestown plated two more runs in the seventh to seal their third GPAC win.
By the numbers:
- Dordt scored one run on four hits and committed two errors
- Jamestown scored seven runs on 10 hits and didn't commit any errors
- Dordt was unable to get any extra base hits
- Jamestown had two doubles
- Chaz Gothard (L, 1-4) pitched 6.1 innings and gave up nine hits, seven runs (five earned), three walks, and five strike outs on 124 pitches
GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jamestown struck first in the second inning scoring two runs after Bonneville singled to left field. Dordt made a great defensive play to cut down the second run trying to score and then threw Bonneville out advancing to second but another run was able to cross in the process. Dordt answered right back in the third inning.
Joseph Schlesselman singled and was advanced to second on a
Carson Belcher sacrifice bunt. After
Josh Tiersma took first after a hit by pitch,
Phoenix West laid down a bunt that was thrown away that allowed West to reach second and both Tiersma and Schlesselman came in to tie it 2-2. The tie game wouldn't last long as Jamestown scored six runs the very next inning and one more in the sixth. Dordt managed to get another run in the bottom half of the sixth off a Belcher double to score Schlesselman. The Jimmies scored three more runs while Dordt would only manage one more in the bottom of the ninth to make the final score 12-4.
By the numbers:
- Dordt scored four runs on 10 hits with two errors
- Jamestown scored 12 runs on 14 hits with three errors
- Carson Belcher hit the only extra base hit for Dordt (double)
- Bennet Spronk (L, 0-4) pitched 3.1 innings and gave up six hits, seven runs, three walks, and one strikeouts on 54 pitches
Dordt's record falls to 6-19 overall and 0-4 in GPAC play. Their next game will be on Friday, March 22 at 2 PM and 4:30 PM against the Briar Cliff Chargers.
