HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defenders held on for a 3-2 win over Cornerstone on Saturday afternoon in Florida run their winning streak to three. The Defenders made the most of four hits and scored one run in three different innings while Cornerstone made a late charge to get a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Karli Olsen reached on an error in the bottom of the first inning and advanced all the way to third base with Aurora Tyson knocking her in with a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead. Dordt added to the lead in the third inning when Brooklyn Cox singled with one out and advanced to third on another error. Aurora Tyson again delivered a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.
While Dordt was making the most of limited opportunities Cornerstone stranded six runners in the first five innings and allowed another Dordt run in the sixth inning when Lauren Steenstra singled in Chloe Kreuz after Kreuz had tripled to start the Dordt threat.
Cornerstone was finally able to capitalize in seventh inning with a triple and double resulting in a run and another double got the tying run to second base with two outs. Kreuz was able to coax the final batter into a ground out to end the inning and game.
THE NUMBERS
- Cornerstone had a 10-4 hits advantage but their two errors led to two unearned runs for Dordt.
- Brooklyn Cox had a single and a double.
- Aurora Tyson was credited with two runs batted in.
- Chloe Kreuz had a triple and got the pitching win with two runs allowed while scattering 10 hits and she walked one batter.
VS WEBBER INTERNATIONAL
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt softball team secured a come from behind win over Webber International on Saturday afternoon with a four-run seventh inning to win its third one-run game overall and its fourth victory in a row by a combined five runs.
Webber International scored two in the first and another in the bottom of the third inning to put the Defenders on their heels. Webber International also stranded two runners in the second but came away empty.
Dordt pushed one across in the top of the fourth inning with Chloe Kreuz singling in Aurora Tyson but Webber International answered with a run in the home half of the inning to maintain a 4-1 lead. Dordt was retired in order in the fifth and both teams stranded a base runner in the sixth.
Down to its final two outs and had a runner on second when the offense got rolling. Brooklyn Cox singled to put runners at the corners and Brooke Rule singled in Alyssa Villa. . Karli Olsen followed with a walk to load the bases and a ground out by Aurora Tyson produced a run but was also Dordt's second out of the inning. Trailing 4-3, Kreuz doubled down the left field line to score Olsen and Rule and Jadyn Faber pitched a scoreless seventh inning to secure her third win in two days.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt had a 9-6 hits advantage and overcame two errors.
- Karli Olsen was 2-3 with a run scored and a base on balls.
- Chloe Kreuz was 2-4 with three runs batted in. Â Kreuz's double was the only extra base hit of the game for Dordt.
- Bailey Sample pitched three innings and allowed four runs on five hits.
- Jadyn Faber came on in relief and struck out one and allowed one hit with a base on balls for her fourth win of the season.
- Dordt is now 13-12.

Dordt will face MidAmerica Nazarene and Indiana Tech on Monday, March 11 to conclude its trip to Florida.
