Softball Gets Split With Hastings

SCORES

Game 1 Dordt def. Hastings 10-1
Game 2 Hastings def. Dordt 2-1

GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dordt Defenders never trailed in game one of their doubleheader with Hastings and pulled away late for a 10-1 in to start the doubleheader.

Dordt scored a run in the first inning when Karli Olsen scored when Chloe Kreuz reached on an error after Olsen reached on a walk and stole second base to get in scoring position.

The Defenders added two runs in the third inning with Kreuz doubling in Aurora Tyson and she later scored on an Alyssa Villa single.

Hastings got  on the board in the third to avert the shutout but Dordt added three in the sixth—two of them on errors and Olsen again scored on a Kreuz sacrifice fly.  Brooke Rule capped the scoring with a seventh inning grand slam, scoring Emma Groen, Kacie Karsak and Sierra Pirkey.

THE NUMBERS
  • Dordt had an 8-5 hits advantage.
  • Eight of Dordt's runs were earned.
  • Chloe Kreuz got the pitching win with three strikeouts and five hits allowed to improve to 10-5 this season.
  • Brooke Rule had a single and her grand slam for five runs batted in and two runs scored.
  • Brooklynn Cox had Dordt's other multi-hit game with a pair of singles and a run scored.
  • Karli Olson scored two runs and Kreuz knocked her in both times for her two runs batted in.
GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED

Hastings scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure a come from behind win to get a split with Dordt on Friday night in softball play.

Lauren Steenstra's single scored Aurora Tyson in the first inning and that was all the scoring until the fifth inning when Hastings tied it and won it on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.

Dordt missed out on big innings in the first and third with the bases loaded in the first and two on in the third.

Dordt also came up empty in the fourth and sixth with two runners stranded in each and had the bases loaded with one out in the seventh but couldn't get the go ahead run in.  A grounder up the middle was knocked down by the Hastings pitcher and the second baseman had enough time to get the force at home with one out in the seventh and a strikeout ended the threat.

THE NUMBERS
  • Dordt had an 8-5 hits advantage.
  • Aurora Tyson had a triple and single.
  • Six other Defenders each had a single.
  • Bailey Sample started the game and went four and a third innings and allowed a run and two hits.
  • Jadyn Faber pitched two innings and took the loss with two hits and a walk.
  • Dordt is now 6-2 in league play and 19-16 overall.
