GAME 1
HOW IT
HAPPENED

Dordt bounced back from two deficits to take game one of its doubleheader with Doane on Saturday afternoon, April 13.  The hosts got on the board first with a pair of runs int eh third inning by Dordt had an answer with an Alyssa Villa single scoring Chloe Kreuz and Emma Groen followed with a homerun to get Dordt in front 3-2.

The Tigers responded with a two-run homerun of their own in the fourth inning for a 4-3 lead, forcing Dordt to put together another comeback. Kreuz singled in Brooke Rule and Villa had a single that got Aurora Tyson across in the fifth inning to retake the lead at 5-4.   Dordt got an insurance run it needed in the top of the seventh on a Lauren Steenstra double that pushed Maggie Walker in and gave Dordt an eventual 6-5 win after Doane got one run back in its last at bat. Doane had the tying run at third base with two outs but a flyball to centerfield ended the threat.

THE NUMBERS
  • Alyssa Villa's 2-4 day was Dordt's only multi-hit game and she knocked in two runs.
  • Groen and Steenstra had Dordt's lone extra base hits as the Defenders were outhit 8-7.
  • Kreuz and Tyson both walked twice and Kreuz got the pitching win while allowing five runs with three strikeouts and one walk.
  • Kruez is now 11-5.
GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED


For the second time in as many games the Defenders had to come from behind to get a GPAC win over the Doane Tigers in Crete, Nebraska on Saturday, April 13.

Lauren Steenstra broke the ice with a homerun in the second inning but Doane came back with a run each in the second and third innings for a 2-1 lead.  Dordt tied it in the sixth when Emma Groen scored on a wild pitch but
Doane capitalized on a Dordt error in the home half of the sixth inning and led 3-2 going into the seventh.

Dordt tied the game on a Doane throwing error and Chloe Kruez scored another unearned run when Lauren Steenstra reached on a throwing error to go up 4-3.  Peyton Whipple scored on a sacrifice fly to finish the scoring and a 5-3 lead.

Jadyn Faber worked a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh to preserve the win.

THE NUMBERS
  • Dordt had an 8-4 hits advantage.
  • The Defenders took advantage of five Doane errors and scored three unearned runs.
  • Emma Groen was 2-3 with a run scored and she had a double.
  • Alyssa Villa had a double and Lauren Steenstra a homerun for Dordt's extra base hits. 
  • Five more Defenders had a single each and five different players scored one run each.
  • Faber got the win while working an inning and a third and struck out one to improve to 6-1 this season.
  • Alexa Kopaska started the game and pitched two innings and walked two and gave up one hit and a run.
  • Bailey Sample gave up two runs—one of them earned, and gave up three hits in three and a third innings.
  • Dordt is now 21-16 overall and 8-2 in the GPAC.
  • Doane is 11-19 overall and 4-8 in the GPAC.
NEXT

Dordt will host Midland on Monday and Northwestern on Tuesday to start a four-doubleheader week at home.
