GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game one of the doubleheader seemed to be going all in favor of the Defenders as they put up a three spot in the bottom of the first. Chloe Kreuz hit a double into center field that drove in both Karli Olsen and Brooke Rule. Lauren Steenstra came up and drove in Kreuz with a single and Dordt led 3-0 after one. Ella Watts cut into the lead with a lead-off solo homer to make the score 3-1. Dordt got one more in teh fourth after Emma Groen grounded out that allowed Steenstra to come home safely. Dordt lead 4-1 heading into the sixth but an Ella Watts double drove in Daisy Lowther and Macy Santoni hit a two-run homer to tie it late. The Flames took the lead in the in the seventh as Ella Watts hit her third extra base hit of the game with a triple that brought in Lowther. Brooklynn Cox singled and stole second to put herself in scoring position and then took third. Karli Olsen came up with two outs and the last chance to drive in the tying run. Olsen crushed a double to center field that brought home Cox and sent the game to extras. Both teams threatened in the eighth but couldn't score as Maggie Walker was stranded at third base. A crucial double play in the top of the ninth stopped any momentum the Flames had. Cox once again singled and stole second with no outs and advanced to third on a Brooke Rule sacrifice bunt. Karli Olsen put down a perfect bunt on the squeeze play to score Cox and win 6-5 in nine innings.Â
