The Dordt Defenders split their series against the Briar Cliff Chargers on Friday night in Sioux Center.
GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Defenders won the first game of the double header on a 3-2 decision, Kylee Lukes got the scoring started for the Chargers as she would triple in the first inning that scored Karis Gifford. Kylie Wilhelms hit a sacrifice fly that scored Lukes from third. Dordt answered right back as
Brooke Rule hit a lead-off triple and was knocked in off a
Karli Olsen RBI single.
Lauren Steenstra drove in Olsen off a single into left field. No runs would score again until the fifth inning.
Brooke Rule hit another triple and
Karli Olsen drove Rule in with another single that would prove to be the game winning run.
The numbers:
- Dordt scored three runs on sevens hits and committed one error
- Briar Cliff scored two runs on four hits an didn't commit any errors
- Brooke Rule hit her seventh and eighth triple of the year, leading the team
- Chloe Kreuz (W, 9-5) pitched 7.0 innings and gave up two runs, four hits, gave up a walk, and had two strikeouts
- Grace Bacheller (L, 4-5) pitched 6.0 innings and gave up three ups, seven hits, one walk, and had one strikeout
GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game two started out with a Karis Gifford walk and a Kylee Lukes single. Autumn Soter launched a three-run home run that put the Chargers up 3-0 early. Briar Cliff added another run in the third inning off a Soter sacrifice fly that scored Karina Cupples and made the score 4-0. The Defenders fought back in the bottom half of the third and tied it up.
Emma Groen worked a lead-off walk,
Brooklynn Cox singled, and
Brooke Rule singled to load the bases.
Aurora Tyson hit based on fielder's choice that scored Groen. Tyson put herself in scoring position off a wild pitch and
Chloe Kreuz drove in both
Aurora Tyson and
Brooklynn Cox. Lauren Streenstra hit single that scored Kreuz after an error in right field to tie it up. Briar Cliff took the lead back in the fifth on a single hit by WIlhelms that scored Cupples.
Lauren Steenstra came within feet of tying it with a home run but fell just foul. Dordt would fail to score another run and Briar Cliff scored two more insurance runs in the seventh to hold on for the win.

- Briar Cliff scored seven runs on eight runs and committed one error
- Alexa Kopaska pitched 1.0 inning and gave up three runs, two hits, and two walks
- Bailey Sample (L,3-2) pitched 4.0 innings and gave up two runs, three hits, and one walk
- Jadyn Faber pitched 2.0 innings and gave up two runs on three hits
Dordt's record is now 18-15 overall and 5-1 in GPAC play. Their next game will be on the road against Hastings on April 12.
