GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defenders took a 4-2 decision from Jamestown in game one of the Great Plains Athletic Conference Post Season Tournament played at the American State Bank Sports Complex on May 1-2.
Jamestown scored a run in the first inning but Dordt came back with a run in the second inning when
Emma Groen singled and knocked in
Lauren Steenstra. Steenstra figured into the go ahead run an inning later when she doubled in
Karli Olsen.
Jamestown put up a run in the fourth to tie the game but
Brooke Rule homered in the fifth inning to put the Defenders up and Groen doubled in
Alyssa Villa in the sixth for the final margin of victory.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt had a 7-3 hits advantage and Jamestown committed two errors to Dordt's one.
- Emma Groen was 2-3 with two runs batted in with a double and single.
- Karli Olsen and Lauren Steenstra both had doubles and Brooke Rule had her homerun.
- Brooklynn Cox and Olsen each had stolen bases.
- Chloe Kreuz got the win in relief while pitching three innings and walked one with one strikeout and she didn't allow a hit or run. Â Kreuz is 12-10 this season.
- Alexa Kopaska started and went four innings and gave up two runs on three hits with a strikeout.
GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Defenders lost an 8-0, five inning contest against Midland on Wednesday afternoon to drop into an elimination contest at the GPAC Post Season Tournament.
Dordt allowed a run in the first inning and then gave up three in the second with two outs. Midland came back with another in the third and finished the game with three in the fifth inning.
Dordt had a base runner in the second but
Chloe Kreuz was stranded at second after a lead off double and Kreuz singled in the fourth too. Dordt's other baserunner was
Alyssa Villa who singled in the fifth inning but was left stranded.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt was outhit 12-3.
- Kreuz was 2-3 with a single and double.
- Bailey Sample took the loss while pitching two and a third innings and she struck out one and gave up five runs.
- Kreuz pitched two and a third and allowed three runs on four this with a strikeout.
- Dordt is now 27-24.
NEXT
Dordt will face Jamestown on Thursday morning at 10am in an elimination game for the right to face Midland at 12:15 in the bracket's championship.
The winner of the backet will play in a best of three series on Saturday at the site of the highest remaining seed.
