The Dordt Defenders lost a 3-1 decision to the no. 8 rated Bellevue Bruins on Tuesday night at the De Witt Gym. The match was the second in a row for the Defenders against a top-10 rated team.

Dordt missed an opportunity to take a 2-1 match lead with a narrow loss in set three and the Bruins used a late run to take momentum and end the match in four sets. The teams split sets one and two with identical 25-20 scores as Bellevue took the first and Dordt the second. The Bruins score the final three points of set three to win 29-27 and then took a 25-15 win in set four to finish the match.
Dordt led 5-2 in set one but the Bruins recovered to take the lead for good at 7-6 after a five-point run. Dordt battled from behind the rest of the set and was down 19-11 before getting within 20-18 on a pair of
Ellie Dokter kills sandwiched around an attack error. The teams traded points to 21-19 before the visitors scored four of the final five points for the win.
Dordt responded quickly with a 10-3 start in set two and was up 13-5 before the Bruins scored five in a row. The Defenders maintained at least a two-point lead the rest of the set and finished with back-to-back points with an
Ellie Weg kill followed by a
Kylie Beckering ace after Bellevue had the difference down to 23-20.
Dordt found itself down 13-7 in set three before a
Kelly McArthur and Weg block started a four point run. Dordt didn't pull even until it was 21-21 as
Myra Carlson and
Ellie Dokter teamed up for a block and Dokter added a kill for a 22-21 lead. Dordt fought off a Bellevue set point with a service error and then got to the first of three set points with a McArthur and Weg block. The Bruins eventually scored three in a row to finish the set and took a 2-1 match lead.
The Defenders managed a 15-13 lead in set four on a
Tarren Spartz kill but the Bruins closed with a 12-0 run and won the set and match 25-15.
