Sweep Win In Forest City For Defenders

The Dordt Defender volleyball team stopped a two-match losing skid with a 3-0 road win over Waldorf on Saturday, September 21 in Forest City, Iowa. The Defenders got their ninth win of the season and third in GPAC play after absorbing defeats to teams rated in the top-eight of the NAIA in the past week.

Dordt had no trouble in winning set one 25-19 but got out slowly in set two and trailed 9-3. An Ellie Weg kill ignited the Defenders and the visitors scored 15 of the next 17 points to win by an eventual 25-16 verdict.

The Defenders appeared in control of set three and led 15-10 before Waldorf scored four unanswered to put a threat together and eventually tied it 18-18. A kill by Tarren Spartz and an combined block by Myra Carlson and Kelly McArthur put Dordt up 20-18. Waldorf again rallied, coming back from a 24-20 deficit to get to set point serve at 24-25. A Myra Carlson kill tied it and an attack error put Dordt up 26-25. The teams were tied again at 26 but Carlson got a kill followed by an Ellie Dokter kill and Dordt won the set and match 28-26.
