The Dordt University volleyball team lost to 20th-ranked Midland (Neb.) 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-13) in a conference match played this afternoon at the Wikert Event Center in Fremont, Neb.
The Defenders, now in fourth place in the current GPAC standings, are 4-2 in the conference, 10-7 overall. Midland improves to 5-1 in the conference, 9-7 overall.
Ellie Dokter put down a match-high 13 kills to lead the Defenders while setters
Carlee Jackson and
Kelly McArthur contributed 17 and 11 assists, respectively.
Madison Vis led the backrow play with 12 digs and also put up three assists.
How It Happened:
- 1st set:
- the teams traded points until the score was 4-4
- Midland went ahead for good with a 6-1 run, forcing Dordt to use a timeout
- another 4-point run put the Warriors in front 14-6
- Dordt rallied and cut the deficit to two (17-15) after a 5-1 run finished off by an ace from Kylie Beckering and a block by Myra Carlson and Kelly McArthur
- Midland answered with a 5-1 run and went on to win the set 25-20
- 2nd set:
- featured nine ties and seven lead changes
- the teams traded points early until Dordt went on a 7-1 run to take a 12-7 lead
- the Defenders run was sparked by McArthur, who had two blocks, a kill and an ace serve
- with Dordt leading 19-14 following a kill by Dokter, Midland scored four of the next five points to cut the lead to 20-18
- the Warriors eventually tied the score at 21, and, after the team traded points for a bit, the hosts scored the final three points to secure the 26-24 win
- 3rd set:
- Dordt led twice early in the final set
- Midland went ahead for good with a 5-1 run to go up 9-6
- Dordt managed to cut the lead to four (14-10) but Midland closed with an 11-3 run to get the win

- Dordt put down 35 kills in 113 swings, hitting 12% for the match
- Midland totaled 42 kills in 105 swings for a 30% kill efficiency
- the 30% kill efficiency is the second highest against the Defenders this season (Ottawa - 37%)
