HOW IT HAPPENED
The Defenders got behind early in set one and trailed 12-9 after an attack error. An
Ellie Dokter kill ignited a five point run by the Defenders and Dordt didn't trail the rest of the set in winning 25-20. The momentum spilled over into set two and the Defenders went on a five-point run to lead 10-5 after two kills by
Tarren Spartz and another by Dokter. A couple Hastings attack errors helped the Dordt cause for the five-point lead.
Hastings eventually took the lead in set two and led 16-13 before Dordt tied the set behind a three-point run. Dordt never led though and the visitors evened the match with a 25-19 win. Hastings led 8-5 in set three but Dordt tied it at 8-8 and the teams traded points up to 12-12 when Dordt seemed to take control with a four point run punctuated by a
Madison Vis ace serve. Dordt maintained the lead up to 20-18 and when Hastings called a timeout. The Broncos got back to back Dordt errors out of the timeout and eventually closed the set with a four point run for a 25-21 win and a 2-1 match lead.
The visitors effectively put the match away in when they scored four in a row to break a 7-7 tie and added another four for a 15-8 lead in the set and went on to win 25-12.
