The No. 1 Dordt Defenders defeated the Mount Marty Lancers with a 92-55 decision in the De Witt Gym. Dordt has now won 26 straight games dating back to last season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ellie Lems knocked down a jumper to open the scoring but Mount Marty hit a three to take an early 3-2 lead. That would be the only lead the Lancers would have as Dordt would go on a 13-6 run over the next 5:38. Dordt held Mount Marty to 22.2 percent from the field and 25 percent from three in the first quarter and would take a 21-14 lead into the second quarter.
Olivia Harazin hit a pair of free throws to open the second quarter and
Gracie Schoonhoven put in a layup. However, Mount Marty would go on a 12-4 run to bring them within one half way through the second quarter.
Janie Van Donge hit two more free throws to spark a 10-3 run to close out the quarter. Dordt would enter halftime with a 38-29 lead.
The second half started just like the first as
Ellie Lems made a layup and Mount Marty knocked down a three. Dordt would slowly start to pull away as Harazin hit two free throws and
Macy Sievers hit a three to make the score 56-38. The third quarter ended with a 65-45 Defender lead. Dordt shot 66.7 percent from the field in the third quarter and a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc.
The Defenders continued to add onto their lead on another
Ellie Lems layup. Harazin hit a jumper and
Willow Bleeker hit a three. Dordt outscored Mount Marty 27-10 in the fourth quarter to secure a 92-55 win.
Dordt's record improves to 17-0 overall and 11-0 in conference play. Dordt's next game will be in Orange City, Iowa against Northwestern on Wednesday, January 15. TIp off is scheduled for 6 pm.
