Women's Soccer Earns No.4 Seed; Will Host Doane in GPAC Quarterfinal

The Dordt University women's soccer team earned the No.4 seed in the upcoming Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) postseason tournament announced by the conference office earlier this week.  The Defenders finished the regular season with a 9-5-3 overall record, 7-2-2 in GPAC play, and tied Hastings for third place in the 12-team standings. Dordt is the No.4 seed due to its 3-0 loss to the Broncos earlier this season. Head Coach Payton Chitwood's squad will host No.5 seed Doane on Tuesday night, Nov.4 at 7pm.

Morningside is the No.1 seed after winning the GPAC regular season title with an 8-1-2 record and earns the first of two auto bids from the GPAC into the NAIA National Women's Soccer National Championship - Opening Round (Nov.20-22). They will play No.8 seed Mount Marty in the quarterfinals. The second auto bid will go to the conference tournament champion unless Morningside wins, then the bid goes to the regular season runner-up, Concordia.

The bottom half of the bracket has No.3 Hastings against No.6 Dakota Wesleyan and No.2 seed Concordia playing host to #7 College of Saint Mary.

Notes:

  • this is the 11th consecutive year the Defenders qualified for the GPAC postseason tournament
  • Dordt has been seeded among the top four teams for three consecutive years
  • the Defenders lost in the GPAC semifinals last season
  • Dordt reached the GPAC Championship match in 2023, losing to Midland 4-3 in overtime
  • the Defenders defeated Doane 2-0 in Sioux Center on Oct.18
    • after a scoreless first half, Brooke Marjama and Karinna Tel netted goals in the second half
    • Dordt outshot Doane 17-2, 10-1 on-goal
