The Dordt University softball team dropped a doubleheader to NCAA D-II foe Wayne State (Neb.) in a pair of games played tonight at the
American State Bank Sports Complex in Sioux Center.
Game One:
9-0 (5 innings)
- How It Happened:
- Wayne State scored a run in the top of the second inning after a one-out double by Emilee Marth, who advanced to third on an infield single by Lillie Timm and scored after a Defenders throwing error
- the Wildcats put the game away with a six-run third inning, fueled by a two-run single from Maddie Scobee and back-to-back, bases-loaded walks to Masyn Bunnell and Mary Krystofiak
- Marth and Timm delivered RBI singles in the fourth inning for the final runs for Wayne State
- By the Numbers:
- Chloe Kreuz had the lone hit for the Defenders, a single in the bottom of the fourth inning
- Wayne State totaled 12 hits, three each by Marth and Timm
- Kreuz (2-1) allowed 11 hits and eight earned runs in four innings with five strikeouts
- Emerson Van meter pitched a scoreless fifth inning and recorded her first career strikeout
- Taylor Coleman (1-0) struck out eight in 4.1 innings and earned the win
Game Two: 8-0 (5 innings)
- How It Happened:
- a three-run double by Marth put Wayne State in front 3-0 in the top of the second inning
- Marth came around to score on the next batter when Jordyn Klein singled to left field
- Wayne State pushed four more runs across in the third on a solo home run by Kennadi Borngrebe and a three-run shot by Marth
- By the Numbers:
- Peyton Whipple and Brynn Torrenga both hit a single to pace the Defenders at the plate
- Wayne State totaled nine hits, three by Klein and two by Marth, who drove in six runs
- Bailey Sample (2-1) gave up seven hits and eight runs in 2.2 innings
- Alexa Kopaska pitched 2.1 scoreless innings of relief for the Defenders
- Borngrebe (1-0) struck out seven and gave up two hits in four innings
