Box Score 2 The Dordt University softball team concluded its Spring Break trip with a split of its games this afternoon in Kissimmee, Fla. The Defenders earned a 4-1 win over Penn State - New Kensington in game one and lost to Webber International (Fla.) 9-6 in the second game.
Dordt ended the Florida trip with a 3-9 record and heads into conference play with an 11-16 overall mark. They open GPAC play against Hastings (Neb.) on March 21.

Emerson Van Meter allowed two hits over five innings in leading the Defenders to a 4-1 win over Penn State - New Kensington (Pa.) in the first game played today in Kissimmee, Fla.Â
Van Meter (1-0) struck out a career-high four batters and limited PSNKÂ to a pair of singles in earning her first career win as a Defender. Both
Bailey Sample and
Alexa Kopaska pitched a scoreless inning of relief with Kopaska earning her second save of the season with a perfect seventh inning.
Tied 1-1 in the fifth inning, the Defenders manufactured the go-ahead run with a double-steal.
Brooke Rule hit a one-out single, stole second, advanced to third on a bunt single by
Brooklynn Cox and the duo executed the double steal for a 2-1 lead.
Annabelle Hensley followed with a two-out, RBI single that scored Cox and a 3-1 lead.
Dordt plated an insurance run in the top of the sixth when
Abbey Hitchcock led off with a single, went to second on a sacrifice bunt put down by
Kacie Karsak and scored after a triple by
Lauren Steenstra.
Eight different players had one hit each to pace the Defenders 8-hit attack.Rule, Cox, Karsak and
Sierra Pirkey all scored one run and RBI's went to Hensley, Steenstra and
Brynn Torrenga.
Linda Sheppard and Shai Moore each had a single to lead PSNK at the plate while Olivia Waldrop (0-1) gave up eight hits and four runs in 5.1 innings. PSNK was making its season debut.
Torrenga put the Defenders up 1-0 with an RBI single that scored Karsak in the top of the second inning. PSNK tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second after an RBI single by Moore.Â
Game Two: 9-6 loss to Webber International | Box Score
Dordt had its three-game win streak snapped as the Defenders lost to Webber International 9-6 late Monday night.Â
Brooklynn Cox paced the Defenders at the plate with her third 3-hit game of the season, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
Brooke Rule was on-base three times with two hits and a walk and
Chloe Kreuz added a pair of hits and drove in five runs.Â
Trailing 3-0 after the first and 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, Dordt came back with three runs in the home half of the fourth to tie the score 4-4. Kreuz drove in two runs on a fielder's choice and later scored the tying run on a ball hit by
Annabelle Hensley that was misplayed by the Warriors.
Webber International went ahead for good with a run in the fifth and pushed two more runs across in the sixth to take a 7-4 lead. Mackenzie Wilfert drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth and Rachel Lamoureaux added a two-run single in the sixth.
A two-run double by Kreuz in the home-half of the sixth inning made it a one-run game (7-6) but the Warriors added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
Kreuz (5-9) gave up nine hits and four earned runs in five innings. The sophomore walked two and struck out two.Â
Taylor Thomas (4-7) picked up the win for the Warriors as she gave up three hits and two runs over the final three innings. Miranda Muriel had three hits in the winning effort for Webber International, who improved to 7-15 on the season.
