Sievers Named GPAC Player of the Year and Van Donge Defensive Player of the Year

Five Defenders Honored

(Wednesday, March 5; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference has released postseason honors for the recently completed 2024-25 women's basketball season and five Dordt Defenders were recognized for their play this season in voting done by the conference coaches.

Macy Sievers (Junior; Storm Lake, Iowa), Janie Van Donge (Senior; Hospers, Iowa),  Olivia Harazin (Sophomore; Crystal Lake, Minnesota), Gracie Schoonhoven (Sophomore; Hospers, Iowa) and Willow Bleeker (Sophomore; Sioux Center, Iowa) earned recognition after helping the Defenders to their third straight regular season title and second straight conference tournament championship. Dordt was 20-2 this season in league play and is 29-2 entering NAIA National Championship play beginning on March 14.

Sievers and Van Donge secured 1st Team nods with Sievers claiming Player of the Year honors and Van Donge is the Defensive Player of the Year.  Sievers averaged 15.4 points per game with 7.6 rebounds, 7.6 assists and 3.1 steals per contest.  She is converting 44.6 percent of her field goals and has made 56 three-point baskets this season. Sievers is the career leader in assists at Dordt and has scored over 1,000 points during her career. She was a 1st Team All-GPAC and NAIA All-American selection in 2024 and she's Dordt's first player of the year since 2022.

Van Donge averaged 16.5 points per game this season with 10.0 rebounds and hands out 2.0 assists per game while converting 55.7 percent of her field goal attempts. Van Donge was often tasked with guarding the opposing team's top offensive threat and defended all-five positions consistently this season. Van Donge is second all-time in career rebounds at Dordt and she's fifth all-time in scoring.  She's just the second player in Dordt program history with over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds and she's the first to do it in four seasons. She's a two-time 2nd Team All-GPAC selection and also earned honorable mention honors as a freshman.

Harazin is a 2nd Team honoree after averaging 10.7 points per game with 2.2 assists and 2.5 rebounds.  She coverts 49.8 percent of her field goals and started all 31 games for Dordt this year and has made 45.9 percent of her three-point tries.

Schoonhoven and Bleeker claimed honorable mention honors.  Schoonhoven averaged 10.9 points per game with 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals and 2.8 assists per game. Schoonhoven returned to action in December after recovering from injury in February 2024. She made 49.2 percent of her field goals in 21 games played.

Bleeker converted a single season record 75 three-point baskets this season with 8.5 points per game and 2.3 rebounds  and she is making 42.1 percent of her field goals.

Dordt will open NAIA National Championship play hosting the first and second rounds at the De Witt Gym on Friday and Saturday, March 14 and 15.  The National Championship field will be set on Thursday night, March 6.
