The Dordt Defender softball team lost a pair of games in a GPAC doubleheader at Morningside on Saturday afternoon, April 19 in Sioux City, Iowa. Dordt fell behind early and lost game one, 9-1, and led midway through game two before losing 12-8. Dordt is 7-11 in the conference and 18-27 overall while Morningside is 14-4 in the league and 26-14 overall. Dordt has four games remaining as it attempts to wrap up a spot in the eight-team GPAC post-season field.

GAME ONE
Morningside scored two in the first on two hits and another six in the second with a grand slam doing most of the damage for an 8-0 lead. Dordt got its run in the fourth inning when
Taylor Schneider doubled in
Annabelle Hensley who had reached on a single with one out. Morningside ended the game with a run in the sixth inning for a 9-1, six inning decision.
Dordt's chances were limited as they stranded just five base runners.
Chloe Kreuz absorbed the pitching loss as Dordt was outhit 12-6 and neither team committed an error.

GAME TWO
Dordt started well and had a 7-2 lead in the fourth inning but the Mustangs scored six in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good. Annbelle Hensley's single in the first scored
Kyleigh Reiter and a
Chloe Kreuz homerun in the top of the third put Dordt up 4-0 with Reiter and
Brooklynn Cox both scoring.
Morningside cane back with two runs in the third inning with back to back doubles doing the damage to score two runs with two outs. Dordt's answer came in the fourth with Kreuz singling in Cox and
Lauren Steenstra's single scored Hensley and Kreuz for a 7-2 lead. Dordt recorded two outs on fielder's choices in the fourth inning when Morningside strung together six runs with a fielder's choice where no out was recorded, an error, a walk and two singles. The Mustangs tacked on a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth for a 12-7 lead. Dordt got one run back with Steenstra homering to lead off the seventh. The homerun tied the single season Dordt record and is her 12
th of the season, tying her with Ashton Beaird (2015). Dordt managed one more single in the frame but that was it, absorbing a 12-8 loss.

Dordt will host Briar Cliff on Wednesday, April 23 to finish the home season and will travel to Waldorf on Saturday, April 26 to conclude the regular season.
