Shutout Sweep For Defenders To End Regular Season

The Dordt Defenders closed the GPAC softball regular season on Saturday, April 26 with a sweep at Forest City, Iowa against Waldorf to climb to .500 in the GPAC and earn a spot in the postseason tournament in the process.  Dordt won game one 10-0 and earned a 9-0 win in game two.

GAME ONE
Dordt took the lead right away with an unearned run in the first and Brooke Rule homerun for two runs in the second for a 3-0 lead. A five-run fourth followed and was highlighted by a Chloe Kreuz two-run single and a two-run double by Ashtyn Grissom.

Dordt extended the lead to 10-0 on a Megan Dickerson grounder that was misplayed  allowing Molly Zylstra to score.

While Dordt was scoring 10 runs on 11 hits Kreuz was limiting Waldorf to two hits and three base runners.

GAME TWO
Dordt picked up where it left off in game two with six-run second inning setting the tone. Ashtyn Grissom singled in a run to start the scoring and Brooke Rule's single scored two runs.  Brooklynn Cox followed with a two-run double and Chloe Kreuz ended the scoring in the frame with a single that got Cox across.

Kacie Karsak singled in Lauren Steenstra in the fifth inning after Dordt went scoreless in the third and fourth. Rule then doubled and knocked in two runs for a 9-0 lead that held up as Waldorf got a runner as far as second before the final two outs were retired in the fifth.

Alexa Kopaska and the Dordt defense held Waldorf to three hits and didn't commit an error while securing Dordt's 22nd win of the season and evened their GPAC record at 11-11.  Dordt will be the sixth seed in the post-season tournament and will go to Midland on Wednesday, April 30 to start one of two, four-team double-elimination brackets with the championship series scheduled for Saturday, May 3.
