The Dordt Defender softball team split its games at the GPAC Tournament Midland Pod and survive to play an elimination game scheduled for Friday, May 2 at noon in Fremont against the host. Dordt lost its first game, a contest with Morningside that was suspended from Wednesday, 6-2 and the bounced back with eight unanswered runs to win an 8-1 decision over Hastings to end the day.

MORNINGSIDE
The Mustangs scored two in the first before steady rain forced a suspension of the game and when it resumed
Julia Bremer reached on an error, allowing
Taylor Schneider to score.
Morningside added a pair of runs in the third and two in the fourth on a homerun. Dordt cut one run off the difference with
Ashtyn Grissom reaching on an error to get
Annabelle Hensley across. The game ended with Morningside prevailing 6-2.

HASTINGS
The Hastings Broncos scored first and had the bases loaded with no one out but a double play and a strikeout ended the threat.
Dordt evened the score with a
Kacie Karsak single that scored
Annabelle Hensley in the second inning. Dordt then got four runs in the third inning with a
Chloe Kreuz sacrifice fly followed by a Hensley double down the rightfield line that scored
Brooklynn Cox and
Brooke Rule.
Ashtyn Grissom's single put Dordt up 5-1.
Dordt added a run in the fourth on a Cox single and
Kyleigh Reiter's double ended the scoring , getting
Brynn Torrenga and Karsak home for an 8-1 lead and eventual win.
Hastings did have a threat in the sixth with no outs and the bases loaded but a double play and a fly out ended the inning with Hastings getting no runs.

Dordt is scheduled to face Midland at 12pm on Friday, May 2 in an elimination game. The winner will advance to face Morningside in the first championship game at 2pm. A second championship game, if needed, will be played at 4pm. The winner of the Midland Pod will face Northwestern in a two out of three series on Saturday, May 3 at Orange City.
