Box Score 2 The Dordt University softball team scored a combined 27 runs in wins over Dickinson State (N.D.) and Haskell (Kan.) to complete an unbeaten weekend at the final ASB Sports Complex Softball Classic. The Defenders earned a 7-1 win over Dickinson State in the opener on Saturday and then defeated Haskell 20-0 (5 innings) in game two.Â
The Defenders improve to 14-2 this season, their best start in program history.Â

Rylee Yager pitched a complete-game, four-hitter and the Defender bats pounded 11 hits in leading Dordt to a 7-1 win against Dickinson State (N.D.)Â
This marks the second win for the Defenders against Dickinson State this season (6-5 win on Feb.14).Â
Yager (7-1) allowed four hits, three singles and a double, and one earned run in pitching her eighth complete game of the season. The freshman walked one and struck out six to add to her team-leading total of 67 this season.
The Defenders offense provided 11 hits, led by
Chloe Kreuz,
Lauren Steenstra and
Aubrey DeShaw who all totaled two hits each.
Sumaya Edwards belted her first career home run, a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Dordt went ahead 1-0 with a run in the bottom of the first inning.
Annabelle Hensley hit a two-out single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and came across to score on a single by Steenstra.Â
The score remained 1-0 until the Defenders blew the game open with six runs in the fourth inning. Following Edwards leadoff home run,
Taylor Schneider,
Aubrey DeShaw, Tera Lynn Price and Kreuz all singled that yielded two more runs and forced Dickinson State to go to its bullpen.
Rylee Yager then doubled that pushed across both Kreuz and Price to make the score 6-0. Steenstra added to the led with her second RBI single of the game, scoring Yager.Â
Dickinson State plated its only run in the top of the fifth when Bailee Mitchell singled home Jaydin Sabol.Â
Reannan Butler (1-2) allowed nine hits and six runs in 3.1 innings.

The Defenders scored a season-high 20 runs on 15 hits and five walks in their 20-0, game two win against Haskell.Â
The 20 runs scored is the second most in program history, trailing only a 22-point effort against Dakota State in 2015.Â
Nine different players had at least one hit for the Defenders, led by
Taylor Scholting and
Caymen Ferber with three each. Ferber drove in a career-high five runs and
Ashtyn Grissom added two hits, including a two-run home run and four RBI.
Jazzy Rennison added two hits and two RBI and both
Megan Dickerson and
Emerson Van Meter drove in two runs. A total of eight Dordt players had at least one hit and one RBI in the game.
The Defenders scored a run in every inning, pushing six runs across in both the second and fifth innings.Â
Bailey Johnson and Van Meter combined for the two-hit, shutout. Johnson (1-1) earned the win with three perfect innings and four strikeouts and Van Meter struck out two in the final two innings.Â
