Dordt split a pair of matches on the final day of the GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic on Saturday, defeating Xavier (La.) in four sets before falling to No. 5 Bellevue in three.

The Dordt University women's volleyball team overcame a first-set loss to defeat Xavier (La.) 17-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-19 on Saturday afternoon in Bellevue, Nebraska.
The Defenders improved to 6-1 with the victory, while Xavier fell to 0-3.
Xavier controlled the opening set, building leads of 8-2 and 20-12. Dordt scored four straight points to trim the deficit to 20-16, but the Gold Nuggets responded by scoring five of the final six points for a 25-17 win.
Dordt took control early in set two with a 12-1 run that turned a 2-2 tie into a 14-4 advantage. The Defenders extended their lead to 22-13 and held off a late Xavier rally to win 25-19 and even the match.
Xavier raced to an 8-1 lead in the third set before Dordt began its comeback. The Defenders pulled even at 16-16 and again at 17-17 and 18-18. Xavier later reached set point with a 24-22 advantage, but Dordt scored the final four points. A Haley Kuperus kill made it 24-23, Scarlett Winterfeld followed with an ace and an Xavier attack error gave Dordt its first lead. Kylie Beckering finished the 26-24 win with a kill.
The teams traded runs early in set four before Dordt moved in front 11-8. Xavier pulled within one at 14-13, but consecutive Ada Dekkers kills and a Winterfeld ace pushed the lead to 17-13. Dordt closed the match with a 7-1 run, and Shayna Van Dyken delivered the final kill in the 25-19 victory.

Fifth-ranked Bellevue defeated Dordt 25-19, 25-22, 25-20 in the final match of the GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic on Saturday night in Bellevue, Nebraska.
Dordt finished the weekend with a 3-1 record and moved to 6-2 overall. Bellevue improved to 4-2.
Dordt used a 6-0 run to take a 13-10 lead in the first set. Bellevue answered with seven consecutive points to move in front 17-14. The Defenders twice pulled within three, including 21-18, but Bellevue scored four of the final five points for a 25-19 win.
Bellevue built leads of 9-5 and 16-12 in set two before Dordt battled back. The Defenders tied the set at 17-17 on a Breanna Beckering kill and again at 18-18 on a block by Weg and Van Dyken. Bellevue responded with three straight points and held off Dordt for a 25-22 victory.
Dordt trailed 5-1 early in the third set before scoring six straight points. Peyton Poppema served three aces during the run, and an Ada Dekkers kill put the Defenders in front 7-5. Bellevue later used a 10-0 run to turn an 11-8 Dordt lead into an 18-11 advantage. The Defenders fought back and tied the set at 19-19, but Bellevue scored six of the final seven points to complete the sweep.
