Dordt University opened Great Plains Athletic Conference women's volleyball play with a 3-1 loss to Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday night in Mitchell, South Dakota.

The Tigers won by set scores of 25-20, 15-25, 25-18 and 25-23.
The first set featured nine ties and four lead changes before Dakota Wesleyan broke a 16-16 tie with two straight points. Dordt stayed within two at 19-21, but the Tigers closed the set with four of the final five points for a 25-20 win.
Dordt responded with its best offensive set of the match, putting away 13 kills with three errors for a .400 kill efficiency. The Defenders built an 11-5 lead before Dakota Wesleyan rallied to within 15-14. Dordt answered by scoring 10 of the final 11 points, including the last six, to win 25-15.
Ellie Weg had four kills and three blocks in the set.
The teams were tied 14-14 in the third set before Dakota Wesleyan used a 7-1 run to take control. The Tigers finished the set with 11 kills and limited Dordt to a .000 kill efficiency in a 25-18 win.
Dordt raced to an 8-2 lead in the fourth set and extended the advantage to 17-7. Dakota Wesleyan rallied with a 15-5 run to tie the set at 22-22. An assisted block by

Shayna Van Dyken gave Dordt a 23-22 lead, but the Tigers scored the final three points to secure the 25-23 win.

Dordt will travel to face Briar Cliff on Saturday, September 12 in a 5:00pm varsity start.
