The Dordt Defender volleyball team went to Mitchell, South Dakota on Friday, October 21 and was swept by the no. 10 rated Tigers 25-14, 25-21, 25-20.Â
The Defenders were slow to start in set one, getting behind 16-8 as the hosts went on a 7-1 run to take control and Dordt a never able to seriously threaten Wesleyan in the first set. The Tigers took advantage of a .394 kill efficiency in the set and Dordt's blocking was limited to one point.
Wesleyan threatened to do the same in set two by taking a 9-5 lead but Dordt rallied with
Avey Amelse getting a kill and
Brenna Krommendyk factored in as well with a pair of kills and a block along with Amelse to get within 10-9.
Dordt kept the pressure on and inched its way to a 17-16 lead on an attack error but Wesleyan quickly answered with a 7-0 run to turn the deficit into a 23-17 lead and that eventually led to a 25-21 win.
Set three as eerily similar with Dordt trailing 10-5 but a pair of blocks and a
Riley Doenhoefer kill got Dordt within 10-8. Dordt came all the way back to take the lead at 17-16 on an
Ellie Voss kill but Wesleyan scored three in a row and eventually went on to win 25-20 as Dordt got no closer than two the rest of the set.
THE NUMBERS
- Wesleyan had a 46-28 kills edge and took advantage of a .255 kill efficiency while limiting Dordt to .075.
- Dordt scored 10 points on blocks and allowed six and both teams had three ace serves with Dordt committing five service errors.
- Ellie Voss had eight kills and three block assists.
- Brenna Krommendyk had seven kills and six block assists with one solo block.
- Allison Timmermans added five kills and Megan Raszler put up 16 assists.
- Makenna Kooima had 10 digs for Dordt.
- Wesleyan got 13 kills from Ady Dwight and 10 from Makenzie Miller.
- Dordt is 13-8 overall and 7-6 in the GPAC while Dakota Wesleyan improves to 10-3 in the league and 20-4 overall.
