Defenders Fall In Four Sets to No.12 Jamestown

The Dordt University women's volleyball team lost in four sets to No.12 University of Jamestown in a conference match played this afternoon at the De Witt Gymnasium. Individual scores were 25-15, 25-16, 21-25 and 25-11.  The Defenders are now 3-11 in the conference, 4-16 overall, with three matches left to play in the regular season. Jamestown, with the win today and coupled with Concordia's loss to College of Saint Mary, moves to the top of the current GPAC standings with a 12-1 record, 19-7 overall. 

Bryleigh Schweer led the Defenders with eight kills and hit .200 for the match. Ellie Dokter contributed seven kills and Isabella Cumana added four kills to go with two blocks. Both Kelly McArthur and Sophie Johnson registered double-figure kills with 15 and 10, respectively. Makenna Kooima led the Defenders back-row play with 13 digs.

Dordt held a 6-3 early in the first set following back-to-back kills from Dokter. Jamestown rallied to take the lead (11-9) but consecutive attacks by Cumana and Riley Doenhoefer tied the score at 11. The visiting Jimmies, however, closed with a 14-4 run to win the first set 25-15. 

Tied at seven in set two, Jamestown used an 8-3 run to pull ahead by a 15-10 score. With Dordt still within four (20-16), Jamestown scored the final five points to win set two (25-16) and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Dordt fell behind early in set three but used a 7-0 run to turn a 2-point deficit into a 15-10 lead. Kooima recorded an ace and Cumana contributed a block and successful attack during the run. Dordt held off a late push by Jamestown to win the third set 25-21.

Jamestown led from start to finish in the fourth and final set, hitting .424 (16 kills, 33 attempts) while holding the Defenders to seven kills in 37 attempts (.054).
