Defenders Split Friday Softball

VS SPRING ARBOR

The Dordt softball team won a 4-3, eight inning decision over Spring Arbor to start play on Friday morning in Florida.
Spring Arbor scored two in the second after Dordt's Karli Olsen knocked in a run in the first inning. Ivy Terpstra singled in Scheper in the third and singled in Ellie Koster for a 3-2 lead. Spring Arbor tied it with a solo homerun in the sixth before Koster knocked in the eventual game winning run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth.

THE NUMBERS

  • Abby Kraemer pitched eight innings and allowed three earned runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
  • Chandler Schemper was 2-4 and scored three runs.
  • Ivy Terpstra was 2-4 with two runs batted in.
  • Dordt was outhit 8-5.

VS JUDSON

Four errors proved to be costly in Dordt's second game of the day on Friday afternoon as they lost to Judson 7-6.

The Eagles scored one in the first but Dordt got the run back in the home half of the inning with Ella Koster tripling in Chandler Schemper. Ivy Terpstra grounded out to the right side of the infield allowing Koster to score.

Judson answered with a four run second inning for a 5-2 lead and Dordt got a run back with Schemper knocking in Brooklynn Cox in the home half of the frame. Trailing 5-3, te Defenders got two homeruns by Koster and Terpstra in the third inning and Emma Groen scored on a Taylor Knaack single for a 6-5 lead.

The lead held until the sixth inning when Judson got two runs and that proved to be enough for the 7-6 win.

THE NUMBERS

  • Ella Koster was 4-4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Koster ended up a double short of the cycle.
  • Taylor Knaack and Brooklynn Cox each had two hits and Ivy Terpstra knocked in two runs.
  • Alexa Kopaska went two innings and was charged with four hits, one earned run out of five total and she walked three.
  • Hailey Wilken lost for the first time in eight decisions with five hits surrendered and she struck out one and walked one in five innings.
  • Dordt is now 15-5 and will play Calumet on Saturday.
