GAME 1 VS CALUMET
The Dordt Defender softball team bounced back from a one-run loss on Friday afternoon to defeat Calumet (Indiana) in game one of their doubleheader 11-2.
The Defenders never trailed with
Ella Koster starting the scoring with a sacrifice fly that plated
Chandler Schemper in the first inning.
Karli Olsen came through with a bases loaded triple in the second inning and
Ivy Terpstra singled in two runners to put Dordt up 6-0 after the second inning.
Calumet got two back in the home half of the second inning but Dordt added two more in the third on Schemper single and
Ivy Terpstra scored as part of a double steal in the fourth.
Lauren Steenstra added to the damages with a single in the fourth and
Brooklynn Cox made the final 11-2 when she scored on an Olsen double in the fifth inning.
THE NUMBERS
- Abby Kraemer went five innings and allowed two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
- Karlie Olsen had a single, double and triple with four runs batted in.
- Lauren Steenstra added a pair of singles as Dordt outhit the Crimson Wave 8-5.
- All nine players in the Dordt lineup scored at least one run and Cox and Schemper each scored two.
GAME 2 VS CALUMETÂ
Dordt scored three runs in the fourth inning and held Calumet scoreless in the top of the fifth to win a shortened 3-2 decision from Calumet on Saturday afternoon to earn a sweep of their two games with the Crimson Wave.
Calumet scored two in the fourth inning to grab the lead. Dordt got a homerun from
Ivy Terpstra in the home half of the fourth inning to start a rally and
Taylor Knaack doubled in
Emma Groen to tie the game.
Aurora Tyson delivered the game winning hit with a single that scored Knaack.
Abby Kraemer came on in relief in the fifth inning and worked a perfect frame for the save.
THE NUMBERS
- The Defenders knocked nine hits and had four extra base hits.
- Terpstra had a homerun and Emma Groen a triple and single.
- Karli Olsen and Taylor Knaack each had a double.
- Alexa Kopaska pitched three innings in the start and struck out one and didn't give up run with four hits and a strikeout.
- Jadyn Faber was the pitcher of record when the Defenders came back to take the lead and gets the win.
- Abby Kramer pitched the fifth and struck out two.

Dordt will play two games on Monday, March 13 to conclude their Florida trip.
