GAME 1 VS AQUINAS
The Dordt Defender softball team won a 1-0 decision over Aquinas in game one of their two-game day on Monday, March 13.
Dordt secured the victory while getting a run in the sixth and
Abby Kraemer earned the shutout win to lift her record to 8-3 this season.
Aquinas threatened with a single in the fourth and an error put runners at first and third but the lead runner was cut down at home. Another error followed to put runners a the corners but a double play started by
Chandler Schemper to
Emma Groen ended the inning.
In the sixth inning the Defenders got a
Chandler Schemper double and
Karli Olsen laid down a bunt and was retired.Â
Ella Koster followed with a triple to knock in the eventual game winner. Aquinas got a runner as far as third in the sixth but the inning ended with a strikeout and Kraemer worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning to secure the 1-0 win.
THE NUMBERS
- Both teams had four hits and Dordt was able to overcome two errors.
- Ella Koster had a single and triple with a run batted in.
- Chandler Schemper had a double and a run scored and Ivy Terpstra had a single.
- Abby Kraemer got the shutout with 10 strikeouts, four hits and a walk.
GAME 2 VS HANNIBAL LAGRANGE
The Dordt Defender softball secured a sweep on Monday to cap its trip to the Florida.
Dordt got its first run in the first inning with
Ella Koster knocking in a run on a fielder's choice that plated
Chandler Schemper from third. Schemper figured in the second run as well as she singled to knock in
Brooklynn Cox and
Jessica Flaherty for a 3-0 lead.
In the third inning
Cassie Van Otterloo singled to centerfield and an error allowed two runs to score on the play. Leading 5-0
Emma Groen tripled in two and she scored on a fielder's choice for an 8-0 lead. The Defenders added a run on a
Jessica Flaherty single that got
Taylor Knaack across.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt had nine hits with Ivy Terpstra had a single and triple and she scored two runs.
- Jessica Flaherty was 2-3 with a pair of singles.
- Emma Groen and Chandler Schemper each had two runs batted in and Karli Olsen was issued two walks.
- Hailey Wilken earned her eighth pitching win with four innings pitched and she struck out two and walked two with three hits allowed.
- Alexa Kopaska pitched the fifth with a strikeout and one hit allowed.
- Dordt is now 19-5 and is off until March 25 when it is scheduled to face Dakota Wesleyan.
