VS JUDSON
Two days after dropping an eight inning decision to the Judson Eagles, the Dordt Defender softball team came back with an 11-0 decision over the same team on Thursday, March 9 in Florida.
Ella Koster knocked in a run to start the scoring in the first inning as
Chandler Schemper scored on a ground out. Koster figured into the next run as well as she singled in Schemper for a 2-0 lead.
The Defenders extended the lead with a single by
Brynn Torrenga that scored
Emma Groen and Torrenga later scored on a
Brooklynn Cox double. A Schemper added to the lead and she eventually scored on
Karli Olsen's single and the Defenders plated four runs.
Another run came in the fifth when Groen scored on a Torrenga sacrifice fly and Koster doubled in Olsen in the sixth. Groen ended the Dordt scoring with a three-run homerun in the sixth inning.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt knocked 14 hits in the game and had four extra base hits.
- Emma Groen was 3-4 with three runs scored and three runs batted in with two singles and a homerun.
- Chandler Schemper, Karli Olsen, Ella Koster and Aurora Tyson all had two hits. Torrenga had two runs batted in and Koster had three.
- Abby Kraemer went the distance for her fifth pitching win with four hits. She had five strikeouts and a walk issued.
VS CARLOW
The Dordt Defenders made it four wins in a row on their Florida trip with a 4-2 win over Carlow on Thursday afternoon.
Dordt started the scoring with a run in the first on an
Ivy Terpstra double that scored
Chandler Schemper. Carlow came back with two in the third inning, taking advantage of a Dordt error for a couple runs to lead 2-1.
The Defenders wasted no time in tying the game in the bottom of the third on an
Ella Koster inside the park homerun. The score remained 2-2 until the bottom of the sixth when
Jessica Flaherty singled in
Emma Groen and
Brooklynn Cox reached on an error that allowed Flaherty to score.
THE NUMBERS
- Hailey Wilken got the pitching win with one hit allowed in two innings of relief. Alexa Kopaska pitched five innings and struck out two in the start with four hits allowed. Wilken is now 6-0 and Kopaska has a 1.21 earned run average in 17 innings pitched.
- Dordt had for hits with Flaherty going 2-3 with a run scored and a run batted in and she had a triple and single. Â Flaherty also had a stolen base.
- Ella Koster and Ivy Terpstra both had singles with a run scored.
- Dordt is now 14-4 overall and will face Judson and Spring Arbor on Friday.
