Softball Hands GPAC Leader First Loss In Tuesday Split

The Dordt Defenders handed conference front runner Northwestern its first loss of the GPAC season in a split of games on Tuesday night, April 18 in Orange City, Iowa. Dordt won the first game 1-0 and Northwestern came back with a win in game two 6-2 to salvage a split.

GAME 1

A pair of errors in the fourth inning put pressure on the Dordt defense as Northwestern got runners at second and third but Dordt's Abby Kraemer was able to coax a fly ball out to get out of the inning. Northwestern again got a runner in scoring position in the fifth but a ground ball out kept the game scoreless.

It was the Defenders who finally broke through Chandler getting hit by a pitch with one out. Karly Olsen was retired on a sacrifice in the sixth to get Schemper into scoring position and Ella Koster doubled to break the tie.

Northwestern again got a runner on second with one out but a pair of fly ball outs ended the frame. After a scoreless top of the seventh Kraemer retired the first batter on a deep fly to center and the next two batters grounded out to the left side of the infield to end the game.
