WHEN

Dordt will play in the GPAC Postseason Softball Tournament with play opening on Wednesday, May 3.  Dordt is part of the four-team double-elimination bracket hosted by Northwestern in Orange City, Iowa.  Play for the bracket will conclude on Thursday with the survivor playing a best-of-three series at the home of the highest remaining seed. The Defenders open play at 2:00 pm against Briar Cliff.  The first game of the day features Northwestern against Mount Marty at noon with the bracket playing out from there.

RECENTLY

• Dordt went 7-1 last week to move into a tie for second place in the league.  On Saturday the Defenders swept Concordia to establish a new single-season wins record.
• Northwestern was 3-3 in its final three doubleheaders of the season with a split against Morningside, a sweep of Mount Marty and pair of 7-2 and 8-7 losses to Midland on Saturday which allowed Midland to slide into a tie with Dordt and Morningside.
• Mount Marty went 1-3 in its final week after losing a pair to Northwestern and splitting with Doane in a 5-1 loss and a 5-4 win on April 29.
• Briar Cliff went 2-4 in its last six games with a pair of losses to Dordt on April 25 by scores of 3-0 and 9-1 and the Chargers were swept by Morningside as well 2-1 and 2-0.  Briar Cliff bounced back to close the season with a pair of 8-0 and 7-3 wins over Hastings.

THE SERIES

• Dordt trails the series with Briar Cliff 55-43 dating back to 1985.  Dordt managed a sweep of Briar Cliff on April 25 by scores of 3-0 and 9-1.
• Dordt trails the series with Northwestern 65-31 dating back to 1985. The two teams played on April 18 and Dordt won the opener 1-0 and lost the nightcap 8-1.
• Dordt leads the series with Mount Marty 40-19 and they started playing in 2007 when Mount Marty added its program. Dordt swept Mount Marty 5-1 and 2-1 in games that were played April 4 in the ASB Dome.
