VS MOUNT MERCY

Dordt managed a sweep of Mount Mercy in their first contest on Saturday, September 2 at a classic hosted by the College of Saint Mary in North Sioux City, South Dakota.

The Defenders were up 10-6 early but a four-point run by the Mustangs tied the score 14-14. The set was tied again at 15 with Mount Mercy getting a three point run and leading 18-15. A Tarren Spartz kill followed by a pair of Riley Doenhoefer kills tied the score at 18-18 and Dordt was still down 23-21 when the Defenders called a timeout. A service error followed and Ellie Dokter had a kill.
An attack error gave Dordt the lead at 24-23 and after the Mustangs tied the score Dokter had two kills in a row to end the set.

Dordt pushed ahead 19-12 in set two and managed a 21-12 lead after two errors by the Mustangs. Mount Mercy did rally to within 24-22, surviving three set point serves but an attack error ended the set with a Dordt 25-22 win.

Dordt never trailed in set three and finished the set with a six-point run that included three Doenhoefer kills and three Brooklyn Leusink kills.
