The Dordt Defender volleyball team fell 3-1 in a Great Plains Athletic Conference match played at the College of Saint Mary in Omaha, Nebraska on Saturday afternoon, October 12.

The Flames pulled away from a 5-5 tie in set one and built a double digit lead 19-9 and went on to win 25-15 with five points coming from blocks. Dordt reversed the decision in set two when it scored five points in a row to turn an 8-7 deficit into a 12-8 advantage. Three of the points were by unforced attack errors on the Flames and
Ellie Dokter recorded an ace serve in the sequence.
Dordt maintained the lead for a 25-18 final, scoring the final two points on an Dokter kill and a
Tarren Spartz and
Haley Kuperus block. The Flames roared to a 6-1 lead in set three but Dordt rallied to tie the set at 10-10 with a block and eight ties ensued to 22-22. The Flames scored two in a row to take control and after a
Kelly McArthur kill for Dordt the Flames won it on a kill for a 25-23 decision.
Trailing 2-1 in the match the Defenders fell behind almost immediately in set four and got down 12-4. Dordt closed to within three but never really threatened in falling 25-18.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt had a 51-47 kills edge but the College of Saint Mary had 14 points from blocks to Dordt's 10. Â
